Default Convert virtual hard drive images from Microsoft’s VHD to VMWare VMDK

Or in simple terms covert a virtual machine created on a Microsoft product to be used on a VMware product. Not everyone uses the same virtualisation solution and it’s not uncommon to receive a pre-configured virtual machine created on Microsoft product when you are a VMware only shop. VMware provides VMware vCenter Converter free of charge for the purpose of converting third party virtual machines into a VMware compatible virtual machine.
How To

  • Start VMware vCenter Converter and click on Convert Machine

  • Select source type: – in this case is I want to Backup image or third-party virtual machine because it’s a vm made by a Microsoft product.
  • Virtual machine file: – Browse to the location where the virtual machine you wish to convert is stored.

  • Select destination type: – you have the option of selecting with which product the converted virtual machine will be compatible, we want it to be compatible with VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine
  • Select VMware product: – here you can choose the version with which the virtual machine will be compatible.
  • Name: – Name the virtual machine with a name of your liking.
  • Chose a location for the virtual machine: – Choose a location where VMware Converter can store the virtual machine.

  • View/Edit Options – you are being given an overview of the virtual machine settings. You can also changed some of the setting like the number of NICs among many others. If you don’t want to make any other changes just hit Next.

  • Ready to Complete – This is just an overview to the new virtual machine to be created.

  • Allow some time for the operation to complete.

  • After the operation is complete VMware Converter will let you know the operation has been Completed.

  • Now move to the location where the virtual machine has been stored and you should see two files which represent the new virtual machine.

Congratulations, now you can use the virtual machine on VMware.

Welcome to the virtual machine repository. All downloads make use of the 7-Zip algorithm in order to save bandwidth and time. FAQ available at the bottom of this page. Thank you for choosing Linhost.info, do not forget to use the md5sum.
NOTE! Please do not link directly to the virtual machines, instead refer people to Linhost.info or VMware Linhost.info
All virtual machines have the same specifications
  • CPU: 1
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Networking: NAT
  • Hard disk: 8 GB SCSI (not allocated)
  • Sound card: Enabled (disable on server installations)
  • USB: Enabled

It’s impossible to provide a virtual machines of every OS, that’s why I am providing this blank virtual machine. No need to use third party solutions. Just insert your own CD/DVD and start the virtual machine to install the OS of your choice. Otherwise enjoy the selection of virtual machines available below.
